Fort Worth Songwriters Association: Membership Profiles

Gary Wayne Pinkston

A true native Texan whose songs are born of a wide range of musical influences including Gospel, Big Band, Rock-A-Billy, Country, and Rock and Roll; Gary Pinkston's songs are a true reflection of the heart. Whether poignant or inane, he seeks to make the audience feel the emotion or the hilarity of the moment.
A self taught guitarist, Gary has always had a passion for music, especially writing, which he has done for much of the past 35 years. Due in part to his past influences, his writing does not easily fit into a neat category, but rather explores all avenues available. He continues to explore new sounds and create new and distinct melodies that will capture the audience. Preferring to write instead of perform, Gary is no stranger to the stage, having performed his original music with a trio in the Philippine Islands during the Viet Nam War and as a writer and former member of a local country western band "Western Union."
He is a member of the Fort Worth Songwriter's Association and continues to write and perform in the Fort Worth area, sharing his originality at various songwriter venues and most recently performing for a local internet radio station.
His biggest fans and support base are his wife Debi, and their three grown sons. Debi has been there every step of the way for the past 34 years, and continues to be a positive yet driving influence in his endeavors.
After his military service he attended college and set about on a law enforcement career that eventually spanned 28 1/2 years. He retired as a Detective Lieutenant in July of 2003, opened a retail gift shop in the Fort Worth Stockyards and has thrown himself into his writing with a vengeance. Gary truly believes due to his military and law enforcement experience, he has seen the best and worst that life has to offer and continues to try and explore the wide range of emotion that experience has provided.
