Fort Worth Songwriters Association: Membership Profiles

Judy Boots

President of the Fort Worth Songwriters Association for 2007.
Judy Boots, whose father was a Baptist minister, was born in San Angelo, Texas, into a family of eleven children. Her parents bought her first guitar from Montgomery Ward at age 12. Judy came by her playing skills quickly and easily and soon had her first "paying gig" performing "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" for a widower, and earning fifty cents.

By age fifteen, she had been an integral part of various gospel groups, such as "Gloryland Way", "The Gospel Four" and "Heaven Bound Because", singing both lead and harmony vocals. To this day, gospel music still influences her music, but her heart has always been set on performing traditional country music.

After the births of her two sons, Judy attended a trade school, receiving a certificate in Electronic Assembly and Motivational Speaking; she continued her education in Junior College, earning a degree in Mental Health and Mental Retardation.

Throughout the years, Judy never lost her love for music and songwriting, and ultimately became a member of the Metroplex Country Music Association; the MCMA provided Judy the opportunity to network, leading to a promotional showcase at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee.

As a single parent, Judy's one desire was to provide a better way of life for her children. This led her to the field of truck driving as an "over the road" truck driver traveling the United States and Canada. Judy had the opportunity to meet a variety of people, experience different cultures, and increase her songwriting potential through new experiences and knowledge.

Now, after years of pursuit and holding tight to her dream, Judy is preparing material for a project to be recorded in Nashville and released during the first quarter of 2007 through the Pot 'O Gold record label. On the CD, you will hear songs about truck driving from a woman who has literally "been there" and you will recognize the influences of some of Judy's favorite female legends, such as Patsy Cline, Connie Smith, and K.T. Oslin. Judy loves performing live, and when you hear her on stage, you will definitely hear the smooth style of Connie Smith, the heartache of Patsy Cline, and the brass and sass of K.T. Oslin.

Through her experience as a truck driving woman, Judy has learned that making it up those steep hills in life requires some down-shifting and slower speeds, but eventually, you will reach the top. Judy is determined to see the tops of a lot more hills; with her "can-do" attitude, there is no doubt that she will go the distance.

To anyone pursuing any dream, Judy offers these words of advice: "If one gear ain't working, change gears, but Keep On Trucking!"
